If this is true, it appears that women have a choice, and men don't.

Perhaps I'm confused but from what I'm reading, it sounds like MEN have a choice and women don't because men have the same financial situation either way whereas women "confer sizable financial benefits".

Well, the way I see it, MEN have choices, but they can't choose between "love" or "money". A woman's choice in husband seems to have a large sway on her income, therefore she can choose between the two...
