Saw the Chicks With Attitude at the Fillmore in SF, last night. Major disappointment. Posted the following on the forums:
So let me preface this post with a little bit of background information.
1) This was the 4th time I saw Liz in concert in 13 months, so I have a pretty good idea of how she should sound in a live venue.
2) I go to concerts all the time
3) I've never been to the Fillmore before, since I live in Austin, TX.
Liz's performance at the Fillmore was fundamentally flawed for one huge reason. Her vocals sounded absolutely terrible. It sounded as though she was being mic'd inside of a bathroom. I don't know if the sound guy didn't know what he was doing or her microphone is just plain bad, but it was really really bad. It was to the point that I almost considered walking out in the middle of her performance (other people were). I ended up leaving after her set and not waiting to see if there was an encore. This was partly because the friend that was with me, was tired of standing in heels after about 3.5 hours (she had never been to the Fillmore and didn't realize that they wouldn't have seating).
If it was an equipment setup issue, that is inexcusable too. They spent about 45 minutes after the Cardigans left the stage setting up equipment. For some reason, there was only 1 roadie doing this.
Note that the other 3 acts didn't have the same problem, so it's not as though I am simply not used to the acoustics of the venue.
All in all, it wasn't a complete loss as the Cardigans were fantastic, as was Charlotte Martin. However, quite disappointing since I flew in to SF from Texas. I hope they get their act together on the rest of the tour.
