...Maybe I drive to get off, baby.
I saw Dust to Glory last night, and it was absolutely fantastic. While I had heard of the Baja 1000 before, I never really knew what it was. I thought it was going to be a non-stop tour-de-force of driving action, but it was a lot more. For starters, the cinematography was spectacular. From the serenity of the largely undeveloped landscape, to the awesome visuals of the machinery, to the hottie Tecate pit babes. ;) They did an incredible job of making me want to see the spectacle of the race, as well as try to compete in the race itself. Seriously speaking, I'm completely unqualified to try and do something like this, but it sure sounds awesome. =)
If there's nothing else that I know about myself, I know that I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie. Over the years, I've accumulated more than my fair share of bumps, bruises, cuts, and scratches. Every last one was worth it. I'd rather pitch myself down the ski slopes at top speed and fall, than to make it down flawlessly. When we play flag football, I tend to throw my body around somewhat recklessly.
On some level, I should try and do this while I can. I remember my mom telling me that I should have a will, now that I own some property. My thinking was that I have no spouse and no children (that I know of ;) ). If I get hit by a bus tomorrow, what do I care? I'll be dead!
This year's event is November 17th-20th. Who's with me?

You know, there is an 'arrive and drive' buggy category. No idea what the entry fee is, though.

If you can get a group of people together you can rent a Humvee for $10K-$20K per person.

Somehow I knew you'd leave that movie thinking of going to it. You enjoy. Luckily I have very big OTHER plans for November 20. And I assure you there is nothing about racing in those plans. Or Sci-Fi while we are on the topic. :)
